Wine Explorers Club - Introduction to the rejuvenated Boroli Barolos
A pair of gorgeous, traditionally vinified Barolos. For lovers of the greatest grape.
Boroli is a newer winery with the family beginning production in 1997. In early years, they were influenced by the modernist trend in Piedmont, but beginning in 2012, the son, Achille, having raised the family’s restaurant to Michelin-starred status, took the reins at the winery. What followed was a striking transformation that leaves Boroli as a source of immaculately farmed, classicly styled Nebbiolos that are still largely unknown by collectors. Brunella is a monopole holding of the winery that sits in Castiglione Falletto near Villero.
2017 Barolo Brunella
93 Wine Spectator Cherry and mint are the main flavor themes in this fresh, fluid red, which is complemented by leather, tar and sanguine notes. Tightens up by the finish, where lightly astringent tannins reign. Best from 2025 through 2046. ...
2015 Barolo Villero
96 points James Suckling -- This gives off a very regal impression from the outset with cedary notes ahead of crushed roses, an abundance of sweetly fragrant spices, graphite, wild herbs and ruby grapefruit zest, as well as super fresh cherries and red plums. The palate has a very taut, fine and elegant core of tannin with pitch-perfect balance, carrying fresh cherry flavor. Try from 2025. (JS)
