user Derniere-Volonte on reddit: “More a great white than a Champagne. Legrand Latour is a great grower Champagne house, on the terroirs of Verneuil. Eocene is made of 75% Meunier and 25% Chardonnay, with a disgorging in April 21.

This wine really needs an opening in advance. It was opened 30 minutes beforehand, without decanting at first. The Meunier's pastry notes started to show up, with a very winey texture and slight bitters. The bubbles were extremely delicate and fine, which is always a pleasure. Following the recommandation of a friend, I decided to slowly decant it for another half hour. The wine really opened up at this stage, keeping its' delicate structure and opening up to a true Meunier wonder. In my opinion it is one of the most interesting grape varieties in Champagne, Eocene being no exception. The wine became very complex, with this delicate and elegant structure, saline notes mixed with the richness of Meunier and a gorgeous acidity keeping everything fresh. The finale kept these bitters with a nice viscosity that is the sign of great wines.

This is a wonderful Champagne to have for Champagne nerds.”
