One of the philosophies behind Potion Collector is locating the stories that take really good wines into the realm of something memorable, and the Historic Vineyard Society is absolutely in that category. Acting like a wine UNESCO, this non-profit seeks to catalog, elevate and celebrate California’s oldest and most interesting vineyards.

Today’s offer is a pair of single-barrel selections made by Bedrock for the Historic Vineyard Society. Just 25 cases of each exist - I am offering them as six bottle sets with 3 bottles of each vintage. The 2021 is a classic, dark, full-throated Russian River Zinfandel with contributions from Ridge, Bedrock, Carlisle and Reichwage. The 2022 is a zesty, Rhone-styled wine from Evangelho vineyard with contributions from Ridge, Bedrock, Desire Lines and Birdhorse. See the bottom of the offer for the details.

2021 HVS Russian River Zinfandel -

YOU BETTER LIKE BLACKBERRIES! This is a joyously generous bottle of Zin with every kind of blackberry represented - from those sticky-icky jammy ones from late summer and the slightly reddish tangy guys that you impatiently grabbed on the early side. All together, it’s a bold, succulent, gushingly good Zin with a ripe, hedonistic vibe and slightly Italianate styling, like many great Sonoma reds. There’s a hint of coconut, amaro, menthol and sour cherry rounding out the bright finish that showcases the crazy fruit quality coming from Mancini, Carlisle and Papera vineyards.

2022 HVS Evangelho Vineyard Red Wine -

From the start, this single-vineyard wine is straight-up delicious, a midsummer blend of Santa Rosa plums, blood orange, wild strawberries and a whiff of dirt road and cocoa powder.This is a classic Bedrock banger with that jazzy fruit that tastes like summer ripeness with a mouthwatering freshness.This will tear through every deli sandwich and charcuterie board on earth.Made from Carignane, Zinfandel, Mourvedre and a splash of other field varieties.All planted together back in 1880 and still on their own roots!

Ludicrously good summer juice with pinot’s drinkability and zin’s hedonistic fruit.
