12pk of 2019 Stereophonic Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon "Untrue"
Inspired by (but not a replication of) the Cabernets that made Napa famous in the 70’s and 80’s, “Untrue” boasts abundant cherry and currant fruits laced with tobacco and spicy peppercorn accents. It’s generous but with air shows a underlying structure that really justifies 5-10 years of cellaring to enjoy it’s true potential. It’s a swirl of powerful flavors, spiciness and grip that makes for a fantastic dinner companion.
This vineyard sits on the exact border of Diamond Mountain District and Sonoma and is closest to Armstrong Ranch (half a mile), an old site that is used at Lerner Project, at Provenance as a single vineyard, and was a St. Clement Vineyard designate a long time ago. AR also makes up a little bit of Beringer’s Private Reserve Cabernet Program. This is a 35-40 year old vineyard that faces east, is planted pretty widely spaced and information on clone was never kept. We picked at 25.5 brix and put it into new medium toast barrels from Saury and Atelier CF. I think our winemaker Aaron did a great job and we plan to produce more Napa wines as his style suits our fruit up here.

Untrue, 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa, Diamond Mountain, Mader Vineyard.
Dark maroon opaque color. Tobacco - berry nose. Wow from the first sip with black cherry, pepper, earth, a kiss of oak and leather. Classic Napa cab. Day two stays true to day one with even more of the leather and black cherry notes emerging. Long, moderately tannic finish. 14.2% alc. Drink or hold. A Cab lovers dream even at this young age. 94 pts.

2019 Stereophonic Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Untrue Mader Diamond Mountain.
Not too much on the nose, but distinctive flavors expand nicely on the palate. Good depth. Quality wine that will maintain its virtues for many years. This is a very nice Cabernet at a very nice price. Another BD winner.

2019 Stereophonic Wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain, Mader Vineyard, “Untrue.” Blackish purple core which crosses into opacity, broad rims of dried blood red to brick red, good surface shine. Pungent nose that shows no signs of holding back, cedar, tobacco leaf, minerally dirt, camphor, the black currant, Italian plum fruit scents show the most restraint, the oak toast is definitely there but proportional, as the bottle opens turns more herbaceous. Full-bodied but manages it well, about as “silky” of a wine as this ilk might get. Not to say there isn’t ample tannin, tends to supplement the oak toast to give it a crisp, energetic feel. Here the fruit shades more to blueberry, blackberry as well as currant, sour twist to it. Mountain scrub, more of that poor minerally dirt, light mentholated lift. Did not find it changing appreciably after a good while open, steady as she goes. Should age a long time without issue while certainly approachable now. (Composite Cork: Diam5)

popped and poured a 2019 UNTRUE Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon last week, no formal notes but would not be afraid to open now, all the tangy goodness (could visualize the small berries) of mountain fruit in a well-integrated and delicious package - very high QPR - this is an under the radar steal!
